  This TCP/IP setup guide assumes that your modem is correctly installed and setup in your computer and that it is fully functional within Windows 95.
   
  Step 1
   
 
  • Press the 'Start' button and select 'Settings' then 'Control Panel'.
  • Double-Click the 'Add/Remove' Programs icon.
  • Select the Windows Setup tab, click 'Communications' then click on 'Details'.
  • Check the 'Dial-up Networking' check box, then Click 'Ok'.
  • Click 'Ok' again in the 'Program/Properties' Window.

When the 'Network' identity window is displayed enter a 'Computer Name' and a 'Workgroup Name' the names are not really important for an Internet connection and refer to a Local Area Network (LAN) environment.

Win 95 will now proceed to install the Dial-up Networking drivers from your CD or disks.

   
  Step 2
   
  2.1  Press the 'Start' button and select 'Settings' then 'Control Panel'.  Double-click the 'Network' Icon.

2.2  Ensure the Configuration Tab is selected.  If the 'Dial-up Adapter' is not an available option continue with the step 2.3, otherwise proceed to step 2.4.

2.3  Select 'Add', double-click 'Adaptor', scroll down the list and click on 'Microsoft'.  Highlight the 'Dial-up Adapter' and click 'Ok'.

2.4  Now you will need to install 'TCP/IP': Select 'Add', double-click 'Protocol'. Highlight 'Microsoft', highlight 'TCP/IP' then click 'Ok'.

Click 'Ok' again. Win 95 will now ask to re-start your system, Click 'Yes'. When the system has re-started continue with STEP 3.

   
  Step 3
   
  After installing Dial-up Networking you will need to access the 'Control Panel' and double-click on the 'Network' icon, select 'TCP/IP' and click on 'Properties'. There are six settings to complete here:
  • IP Address:   Obtain an IP Address Automatically
  • WINS Configuration:   Enable WINS
  • Gateway:   This text entry box should be empty
  • Bindings:   Default Client for Microsoft Networks

Advanced:   Leave this as it is

DNS Configuration:   Enable DNS and enter the following settings:

  • Host Box entry:   ppp
  • Domain Box entry:   visp.com.au
  • DNS Server Search Order:   202.61.170.13

Now click the 'Add' button for this section;

Domain Suffix Search Order: visp.com.au

Now click the 'Add' button for this entry.
Click to 'Ok' button.
Click 'Ok' in the 'Network' window to complete Step 3.
Win 95 will now ask to Restart the system select 'Yes'.

   
  Step 4
   
  This is the final step to the TCP/IP setup:
Ensure that your modem is correctly installed, turned on and setup in your computer.
  • Double-click 'My Computer' icon.
  • Double-click on 'Dial-up Networking', then click 'Next'.
  • Enter 'VISP' as the name of the computer to dial.
  • Click on 'Configure'
  • Set to the Comm. Port to the serial port your modem is connected to. Set baud rate to '115200' for 56k modems.
  • Select the 'Options' tab and check 'Bring up Terminal Window' after dialing.
  • Check 'Display Modem Status'.
  • Click 'Ok' then click 'Next' and enter your 'Area Code' from the listing below.
  • Enter the VISP phone number for the access required from the listing below.
  • Select 'Country Code' and choose 'Australia (61)' from the country options list.
  • Click 'Next' then 'Finish' to complete 'New Connection' setup.

You should now have a new icon called 'VISP'.

  Step 5
   
  The following steps assume that you have installed Internet software such as Netscape, Internet Explorer, Eudora, FTP, IRC etc. If you have not installed these programs as yet, please do so now. Once you have installed your Internet software continue with the remainder of Step 5.

Important Note:
User Name / Login Name is always typed as Lower Case characters e.g. james, not James or JAMES. Using log-in names in any other format than lowercase will result in a failed log-in!

Password:
Your password is Case Sensitive and must be typed EXACTLY as submitted on your application form. If your password was submitted as SMilC3d. Typing SMiLC3d or SMILC3D will also give a failed log-in!

  • Double click the 'VISP' icon.
  • Make sure the 'User Name' and 'Password' Text boxes are entered correctly.
  • Click the 'Connect' button, this will allow you to log into the VISP
